I love facilitating pre-marital counseling for couples who are preparing to join their lives together in marriage. This process typically involves 4-6 sessions over the course of 6-8 weeks and will be custom created according to your needs and relationship. Pre-marital counseling can be a great way to address concerns, questions and expectations of the relationship while overturning stones of vulnerability and possible fears so that you can feel wholeheartedly yourself and completely connected as a couple as you stand to exchange those vows. It can also serve as a wonderful introduction to what couples counseling feels like. Its a little like training for a marathon… let’s get you prepped and skilled before marital challenges hit so that you feel a little more equipped and calm in preparation for any potential future adversity.
Finding yourself out of balance with your spouse or partner is painful, lonely, frustrating, and it can cause other aspects of your life to feel out of whack. Couples therapy can be very helpful when hoping to learn more about communication, feel more secure, feel empowered by each other, find safety and security within the relationship, improve your intimate life, fight fairly and effectively, overcome hardships, and share all the responsibilities and joys that come along with being a couple.
Some of the topics addressed in couples counseling include:
Life transitions (relocations, having a baby, losing a job, etc)
Distribution of responsibilities
Abuse (verbal, emotional, physical)
One of the biggest challenges in many couples is overcoming the difficulty of accepting responsibility. Coming together in troubled times, with an unbiased third party (that’s me!), can help the two of you see things from a different perspective and perhaps with some new insight. Uncover your vulnerabilities in a safe environment as you learn to accept, validate, hear, and appreciate each other’s fears, feelings, and differences. Consider couples counseling as an important investment in your relationship.
Rates for couples and pre-marital sessions are the same as those for individual sessions.
